Fighting Off Mice, Carpenter Bees, & Bats in Your New Jersey Log Home

Posted on

If you have recently purchased a big log house in New Jersey, then you know how bothersome the pests can be. During the summer and spring, you have to deal with carpenter bees. Bats will be a problem spring, summer and fall, and mice can be a year-round problem. It can be a full time job to try and deal with these pests on your own, luckily you have a better solution. There are companies that can come to your log home and deal with these troublesome pests. Here are some things that they can help you with.

Carpenter Bees

Carpenter bees are a major problem for you if you are living in a log home. They will come around in the spring and start boring into the logs. They eat the wood, tunnel deep into the logs, lay eggs, and then will continue to eat and reproduce. If you let them, they will hollow out the logs and destroy your home. Not only are carpenter bees themselves a problem, but they can attract woodpeckers.

It is very difficult for you to deal with carpenter bees. You can't simply use wasp spray and kill them because they hide deep inside the log where the spray won't reach. And you also don't want to simple fill the entry hole with putty because the bees inside will just eat their way out.

You need to get an expert pest removal service to come in and handle the situation. What they will do is use a powder and puff it into the log using a long nozzle. This will kill the bees that are inside. Then the holes can be covered. Afterwards, the logs can be coated with fresh stain. It's important to cover with fresh stain because this will help mask the scent of the wood, which is what draws the bees.

Mice

West Milford has lots of woods, so you will have field mice try and gain entry into your home. In the summer and spring and fall, they will be looking or food. During the winter, they will be searching for food and warmth. While you can get a cat and set mice traps around, the best way to deal with a mice infestation is to bring in a pest removal team. They will be able to find all of the access points that the mice use to gain entry and seal the small cracks. This will prevent the mice from gaining entry. If there are mice living in your attic, basement, or crawlspaces, then the pest removal experts can have them removed.

Bats

Bats are beneficial creatures, they eat insects. So, if you don't want to sit around at night getting eaten alive by mosquitoes, then you don't want to kill or chase away bats. But, you don't want them in your house. Fist, set up a bat box on a nearby tree or on the side of your house. Secondly, have the pest removal team come in and remove any bats that are roosting in your home. They can do this using special nets and won't harm the bats.
